What is Dokha, Medwakhs and their Accessories explained.
What is Dokha? I hear you asking. Very popular in the Middle East for many decades, Dokha is the pure, natural and original tender Arabic tobacco. Unlike most tobaccos, Dokha is not fire cured and cut, but dried in the arid desert region from which it came. It’s finely ground in a timely delicate manner to preserve the content of the tobacco. It’s strength, freshness and pure flavor is a direct result of the environment its grown and harvested in.
The tobacco, is strung up by the storks and left our hanging in the arid dessert air. Due to the lesser degree of processing, Dokha tobacco appears essentially unaltered. This allows it to maintain the green coloration of the natural plant.
We’re passionate about bringing quality tobacco products to your doorstep!
In the past, local people of desert regions smoked dokha because it gave them a stimulating and comforting head rush. However, since its origin, the art of cultivating dokha tobacco has come a long way through generations upon generations tending to this crop to reward us with truly superior tobaccos in the present day.
By comparison, most smokers who have ventured to sample dokha are intrigued by its particular quality, the often intense satisfaction it provides to the smoker and the unique flavor versus cigarettes, cigars or other pipe tobaccos. Our customers are comforted to know that dokha tobaccos we provide are pure and natural – of organic crops irrigated with only fresh water. Our dokha tobaccos are free of chemical additives found in most other smoking products. Our customers are also pleasantly surprised to note that smoking dokha does not impart a residual and often foul odor associated with most tobaccos due to the nature in which dokha is both prepared and smoked. Due to health considerations, we have learned, a large number of our customers decide to exclusively smoke dokha as it causes them to physically smoke less tobacco (compare approximately 1.4 to 1.9 grams of tobacco contained within a cigarette versus 0.13 to 0.15 grams per smoke with dokha). Also, with smoking less tobacco through the filtered medwakh pipe, the amount of tar reaching the lungs is further limited when one maintains their same smoking habit. As to NOT mislead you, we are inclined to mention here however, that Enjoy Dokha Ltd does not claim that smoking of any tobacco product is advisable for your health. Its still tobacco.
Dokha is enjoyed with the use of a small, crafted smoking pipe, or medwakh. Originally, hollowed animal bones were used as pipes; however craftsmen also made pipes using different types of exotic wood, among other materials, as a sign of prestige and status. Just as with any smoking device, medwakh are offered in a range of varieties for your individual preference and sense of nostalgia. Consider each medwakh a handcrafted artistry that you will feel proud to own and display as you enjoy your pastime.
We hope the above description clarifies for you what you may have heard about dokha and medwakh as we invite you to try for yourself a remarkably premium tobacco to offer delight to the true connoisseur (or just that wild guy or gal with a taste for enjoyment of life – in all of its forms).
Resultant blends are typically classified into light Dokha, medium Dokha, or hot Dokha.
A Medwakh, also spelled Midwakh, is a small smoking pipe of Arabian origin, in which Dokha, a sifted Iranian tobacco product mixed with aromatic leaf and bark herbs, is smoked. The bowl of a Medwakh Pipe is typically smaller than that of a traditional western tobacco pipe. It is usually loaded by dipping the bowl into a container of Dokha flakes.
Medwakh pipes are primarily produced in the United Arab Emirates, and are especially popular in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
The Medwakh Pipes are often custom made, allowing the smoker to specify the dimensions and design. Medwakh Pipes are crafted from a variety of materials including wood, bone, base metal, marble, steel, gold, silver, plastic or glass. They may incorporate precious items such as diamonds, gemstones and rings of precious metal inscribed with symbols, such as a falcon similar to the one shown in the UAE coat of arms. The pipe may be crafted to resemble a dromedary camel, a highly revered animal in the UAE; the opening of the bowl shaped as the camel’s mouth, with a small hole connected to a metal shaft inside the body of the pipe to conduct the smoke to the user.
Among many modern variations of the Medwakh Pipe, some are covertly disguised as pens, some can be split apart for cleaning, and some can have double bowls or double stems. Most Medwakh Pipes crafted today have a mouthpiece sized to fit a plastic filter to reduce the flow of unwanted ailments.
Most people like to express their individuality with their Medwakh Pipes, this is why Enjoy Dokha have over 30 different designs and styles to choose from.

When smoked through the Medwakh, you will get a ‘Buzz’ feeling which lasts approximately 30 seconds, depending on your Nicotine tolerance. You could compare a bowl of Dokha similar to an Espresso Coffee. Both are concentrated, both are a little intense and both leave you with a buzz afterwards.

As you try different Dokha blends, you will notice the strengths of Dokha are more complex than just 3 differing categories. To keep things simpler, there are 3 different types of Dokha tobacco blends. These are Light Dokha, Medium Dokha and Hot Dokha.
Traditionally, Light Dokha is very smooth on inhale and offers a light buzz for beginners new to Dokha. Medium Dokha offers a sustained yet intense relaxing buzz that will leave you tingling from the true smoking experience. Hot Dokha recommended for seasoned Dokha smokers offers a rush of heat on inhale followed by a long drawn out strong buzz that will leave you probably wanting to sit down for a while.
Cleaning your Medwakh pipe is important. It not only looks after your Medwakh pipe, making it last longer, but it also ensures a good buzz every time you smoke. Follow these quick steps to keep your Medwakh pipes air flow free!
1 – Take your filter off the medwakh pipe.
2 – Insert your pipe cleaner through the pipe until you can see it in the bowl at the end. Bend the end of the pipe cleaner that is poking out of your pipe 90 degrees and twist it around to clear any blockages.
3 – Remove the cleaner, whip the end with a paper towel and blow through the pipe to remove anything left in the Medwakh airway.
4 – Scrape the bowl of the pipe clean with a new pipe cleaner or paper towel.
5 – Lastly, blow one more time through the Medwakh, and apply a new filter.
This may seem like a long process but after a few times you will breeze through it quickly. Follow these simple steps and your Medwakh pipe will thank you for it!
Traditionally Medwakh pipes use a filter tip to help filter the smoke impurities, rarely you will see someone smoking Dokha thought a Medwakh pipe with out one. There are many different types of filter tips available: You can choose a filter with increased airflow or a reduced airflow. You can also choose your filters based on filtration materials such as internal cotton , charcoal and silicon beads.
Have a look at our Filter tip section to see which will be best for you.
Enjoy Dokha currently offer 25ml, 50ml and 250ml Dokha bottles.
A 25ml Dokha bottle contains 9 grams of Dokha Tobacco.
A 50ml Dokha bottle contains 14 grams oh Dokha Tobacco.
A 250ml Dokha bottle contains 70 grams of Dokha Tobacco. This product arrives in 5 x 50ml Dokha bottles instead of one big bottle as customer feedback said it was hard to manage one big bottle.
1ml does not equal 1 gram because Dokha is lighter in weight and less dense than water. see next FAQ for a more in depth answer to this.
No, They are two different things.
1 ml (millilitre) is a “volume”, it measures how much three-dimensional space an object occupies. 1g (gram) is a “mass”, it measures how much material an object contains.
Somethings are more “dense”, meaning that the same amount of material occupies a smaller space – think of the metal. Somethings are less dense – the same amount of material occupies a huge space – hydrogen gas in room temperature and atmospheric pressure, for example.
It happens that 1ml volume of pure water at 4.0° Celsius (39.2° Fahrenheit) contains very close to 1g of material (0.9998395g). This is why people sometimes confuse the two quantities.
If you order for example a 250ml bottle then the weight of the contents is 70 grams. This is because Dokha is light in weight as apposed to water which is heavier, if put in the same container – everything has a different density and thus different weights.
Depending on how much you pack your Medwakh pipe bowl, the average Dokha smoker will be able to get between 100 and 120 smokes from a standard 50ml bottle of Dokha.
